FAQ
What is Analog?
Analog is an experimental theatre collective, specializing in tangible, physical, old-school theater techniques. Our leadership trio (Jed Parsario, Rebecca Pingree and Elissa Beth Stebbins) have built a company of mask characters inspired by the tradition of Commedia dell’Arte, and each Mask Monday these characters welcome new audiences and Artists to experience the thrill of watching theatrical discoveries happening in real time. Analog specializes in multidisciplinary, devised performances that rely on back-to-basics theatre magic, including mask, mime, puppetry, music, improvisation and audience interaction.
What is Mask Monday?
Mask Monday is a place for physical theatre+ artists to test out their original work in development in front of a live audience.
Why do we need "promisingly unfinished physical theatre"?
The essential ingredients of theatre are simply performer and audience, but when it comes to developing unique theatrical voices the playing field is far from level. Funding, resources and recognition are often reserved for artists whose work is already polished, marketable, and acclaimed, but creating original theatre requires a staggering amount of time and resources. Add the extremely high cost of living in the SF Bay, and original local theatre development becomes even more inaccessible to unestablished voices. Analog’s “promisingly unfinished” theatre development platform, by contrast, exists to foster, share and celebrate work that is explicitly still in progress, opening the door for more artists, more innovation, and above all more community. Providing a model of free entertainment by paid artists in an informal setting, Mask Monday’s odd little tagline wagers that if you give us a chance you’ll be moved, delighted, transported and changed by our brave and beautiful artistic community, on and off the stage.
